Arsene Wenger’s hand may now be forced, so we could see him enter the January transfer window to find defensive cover.
It has become a familiar, frustrating story for
Arsenal fans when injuries wreck their
Premier League title challenge, but their options at the back are literally down to the bare bones.
England left back
Kieran Gibbs has had a nightmare trying to stay fit and the news that he faces even longer on the sidelines may result in the club seeking a loan signing.
The Gunners have had to deploy four natural centre halves in defence as all their recognised full backs are out injured. Gibbs is joined on the treatment table by Carl Jenkinson, Andre Santos and Bacary Sagna as well as Johan Djourou. Young Spanish defender Ignasi Miquel is now in line to start the next game.
“We are starting to look at players if Gibbs is not back,” said boss Arsene Wenger who added if consultation with a specialist over the player’s hernia problem meant the setback suffered was serious then he would have to consider the possibility of going into the market for a defender.
